Ephesians 4:29, 'Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.' The tongue is a very powerful organ that is capable of bringing either life or death. We as believers of Christ need to be very mindful of what we say. But this starts from what we allow into our hearts. There are only two inlets into our hearts, that is, the eyes and the ears, what we see and what we listen to. If we allow filth to enter into our hearts by looking at wrong things and listening to wrong things, we will have wickedness in our hearts. We can only give out what is in our hearts and if it full of wickedness then our outlet, that is the mouth, will only spew out this wickedness. A spring cannot bring forth both fresh and salty water. Hebrew 12:5-12, ‘And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those He loves, and punishes everyone he accepts as a son.” Endure hardship as a discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! The tongue physically is the strongest human muscle. Speech can be used for either good or bad, to heal or hurt, bring freedom or bondage, show the way or mislead. Speech can also be passed down from one generation to the next. Young children pick what their parents and elders say. We need to be in control of our tongues lest they land us into trouble.
