The Power Over Sin

Matthew 4:3-10 New King James Version (NKJV) 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship t...

Arrogance Leads To Death

Job 35:13, ‘The godless in heart harbor resentment; even when He fetters them, they do not cry for help.’ Are you so stiff necked, so arrogant, so steeped in your ways that you cannot hear that still small voice that calls out to you that is pleading with you to change your ways, to repent so that you will not perish. Is your heart so hardened, so dead that you cannot recognize the voice of God, the Holy Spirit trying to convict you. The arrogant are filled with resentment toward God and are not willing to hear His call and surrender to Him, to accept that they need Him in their lives, that He is their only salvation and will perish in their arrogance.

Exalted in Our Lowliness

Proverbs 21:30, ‘There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.’ We live in a time that is the most advanced in the history of man yet, with all this knowledge, we are still foolish in the sight of God. God knows everything, even what is in the heart of man. God’s will is sovereign and no one can prevent God from achieving what He wants. We might plan all we want but God’s will prevails. It is therefore important for us, in order to have peace and joy, to live through His grace in humility and obedience to His divine will for our lives and He will exalt us. But if we exalt ourselves in pride, placing ourselves above Him, He will oppose us to our ruin.

Strength in Weakness

1 Corinthians 1:27-31, ‘But God chose the foolish things of this world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of this world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us the wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the lord.”’ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. If you think that you are able to do something on your own, you will lift yourself above God and give honor and glory yourself instead of God. But those that are weak, unable to do in their own strength, God uses them to show His own strength, to make sure that everyone is focused on Him and His will, His purpose, His strength and hence give thanks and glorify Him. It is only a person that knows that he is not ...

Living in Humility

1 Peter 5:6,7, ‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.’ When we are faced with difficulties, trials, problems, stress; we usually tend to get agitated, anxious, worried, angry and frustrated. We blame ourselves, others, the world and even God for our predicaments. At that time we try to get hold of the problem so that we can resolve it, in our own way, by our own might. We do not seek the counsel of the Lord to listen to His wisdom on how to resolve our problems. At this time, in our impatience, most of us adopt the end justifies the means attitude and we end up getting into more problems, digging ourselves even deeper into misery. We suffer because we do not believe or trust in the ability of our God to take care of us, to carry us through by His grace during the difficult times, to give us circumstance defying peace and His everlasting joy. In times of need, we should cast...
