Immanuel – God With Us

Joshua 1:5-10, ‘“No-one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” So Joshua ordered the officers of the people…’ Moses was a great man of God and was able to do numerous miracles. After he died, Joshua, his assistant that had been groomed as successor was called to fill in the big shoes that Mose...

Contrite and Broken Spirit

Psalm 51:16,17, ‘You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart.’ In the olden days of the Jews would offer burnt offering to God as an appeasement. Now let us ask ourselves one thing, why did God want the Jews to offer sacrifices for sin, thanksgiving, dedication, atonement and other such events, was it for the meat, aroma (the seen things) or was there more? Now before a person makes a sin sacrifice, for example, he has to be aware that he has sinned in the first place. After knowing his sin, then he has to be remorseful and sorry about the wrong he has done. But it does not end there, he has to be repentant; that is, being sorry enough to stop doing the wrong thing and then know that it is only He who needs to and can forgive our sins. That is why He accepted Abel’s sacrifice but rejected Cain’s. God desires that whatever we do; be it thanksgiving, seeking fo...

God of Compassion and Mercy

Psalm 116:5-7, ‘The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The LORD protects the simple hearted; when I was in great need He saved me. Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.’ Before we knew Christ, we were living in slavery to sin and to the Evil one, but now that we know Christ, we have been set free and free indeed! Our freedom, we did not earn but by the grace of God, His free mercy and compassion, He forgave us, once and for all in and through Christ. We were in great need of His salvation fro we were doomed to the pit, the lake of fire that had been made for the Prince of Darkness and His fallen angels, yet because of His love and compassion for man, Jesus came, shedding His divinity and choosing to live lover than angels, taking on the life of a servant, He redeemed us by His blood, at the cross, and all we have to do is to be childlike in our minds, believing that He is the Son of the living God and that He died and rose agai...

Exalted in Our Lowliness

Proverbs 21:30, ‘There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.’ We live in a time that is the most advanced in the history of man yet, with all this knowledge, we are still foolish in the sight of God. God knows everything, even what is in the heart of man. God’s will is sovereign and no one can prevent God from achieving what He wants. We might plan all we want but God’s will prevails. It is therefore important for us, in order to have peace and joy, to live through His grace in humility and obedience to His divine will for our lives and He will exalt us. But if we exalt ourselves in pride, placing ourselves above Him, He will oppose us to our ruin.

Living in Humility

1 Peter 5:6,7, ‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.’ When we are faced with difficulties, trials, problems, stress; we usually tend to get agitated, anxious, worried, angry and frustrated. We blame ourselves, others, the world and even God for our predicaments. At that time we try to get hold of the problem so that we can resolve it, in our own way, by our own might. We do not seek the counsel of the Lord to listen to His wisdom on how to resolve our problems. At this time, in our impatience, most of us adopt the end justifies the means attitude and we end up getting into more problems, digging ourselves even deeper into misery. We suffer because we do not believe or trust in the ability of our God to take care of us, to carry us through by His grace during the difficult times, to give us circumstance defying peace and His everlasting joy. In times of need, we should cast...

Resolving Conflict

Mathew 18:15-17, ‘If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two brothers along, so that ‘so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If he refuses to listen to them tell the church, if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.’ When we are wronged by another, the tendency we have is to go and expose them to others so that they may be shamed and vilified while we may gain pity from others. This results in grudges between us that create a never ending cycle of revenge. If we are wronged, Jesus told us that we ought to confront the offender in private, bringing the offense to his attention. In so doing, a true believer when confronted in such a manner will realize his mistakes and repent for his sins and transgressions against you. You will end up in finding...

The Humility Of Christ

Philippians 2:3-8, ‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!’ Consider this: The creator of everything set aside His divinity in Heaven to come and live as a mere man in all aspects, living in total obedience to the Father and going to the cross for the sake of humanity, showing us the perfect example of how to live the life of servitude to others. Our carnal nature is selfish and leads us to only think of “number one” but as new spiritual beings that are reborn in the likeness ...
