The Power in the Tongue
Psalm 52:1-7, ‘Why do you boast of evil you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit. You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. You love every harmful word; O you deceitful tongue! Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; He will uproot you from the land of the living. The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him saying, “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew by destroying others!”’
The tongue is a very treacherous tool that can be used to either build up or tear down people. With a tongue you can offer praise to God and with it you can curse men. The world as we know it was spoken into existence and in faith believers call into existence what is not seen.
We need to be masters of our tongue so that only life, encouragement and blessings spring out of our mouths. To do this we need to start with what is in our hearts, because out of the heart of a man springs either good or evil. You cannot have a good heart yet speak evil, hate, deceit, lies, treachery; it is just impossible.
Our human nature is predisposed to selfishness, rebellion, You need to set your heart right and the only way to be able to consistently do it is through Jesus Christ who will renew your mind and heart.
