The Power of Generosity

Psalm 112:5-8, ‘Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered for ever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.’ We live in a world that justifies the means used by the end sought; we lie, cheat and steal all in the name of acquiring wealth and status. We have replaced justice and equity with a clogged up, blind and unfair legal system that is tied up and led by not what is wrong or right but by rules and regulations. It teaches us to view our success with our accumulation. We hoard and accumulate and become stingy where someone with millions in his account will not even spare a few hundreds of shillings to provide just a single meal to a starving neighbor. But the living word of God teaches us that for us to receive; we need to generously and freely, out of our own volition, give to the needy and the poor. This theme is repeated and demonstrated by Jesus and the early church. God loves a cheerful giver and if you are a give He will reward and shower you with His overflowing and unmerited favor and blessings out of which you can continue to bless others for He who sows sparing reaps sparingly while He who sows more reaps a bountiful harvest. God is not man that He should forget the good we have done and when Jesus comes back on that Day, to pass judgment, He will reward those that cared for the weak, the needy, the oppressed with the inheritance prepared for them before the beginning of the world. A righteous man, one who has right standing with God in Christ, will not live in fear of the injustice in the world because His trust and hope lie in the faithful Father who has made promises and provided an inheritance for them. DO not allow yourself to be shaken or shaped by the dictates of this world but allow the transform power of Jesus Christ to take over you and renew you into a loving spirit, and the epitome of love is sharing your possessions with others.
