Sin

What is sin? Sin can be described as the violation of the perfect holiness of God or the nature or attitude within us that casues us to do evil/ wrong. Sin causes us to miss the mark or err; to have an active rebellion or transgression against God´s will; be unrighteous; or go astray. So who started sin, who was the first sinner. Most think that Eve was the first sinner but this is not so. The first sinner was satan himself. This can be seen in Ezekiel 28:14-16, ´You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence and you sinned.´ Satan then led other angels in heaven to sin against God.

After man was created, Satan again went to woman and convinced her top sin against God as shown in Genesis 3:1-6, 'Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ´ You must not eat from any tree in the garden?'” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden , but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.´” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her and he ate it.

So how do we sin? By our will, our mind, our emotions, our thoughts, our behavior and our speech. Anything that is against God and His Will is a sin. Sin is both the outward acts we commit and the inner corrupted morals and spiritual nature that causes us to sin.

Sin has its consequences, satan and the fallen angels were thrown out of heaven Revelation 12:9, 'The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient serpent called the devil or satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.' Adam came pain, suffering and ultimately death and separation from God, Genesis 3:16-23 and

So how do we escape the consequences of sin? Only through Jesus Christ as shown in Romans 6:23, 'For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' Because of God´s boundless grace, Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice to pay for our sins so that through his death we live. But when we decide to come to Christ and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour, we need to say goodbye to our former sinful, Romans 6:5-7, 'For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with that we should no longer be slaves to sin – because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.'
