Christian Living

Collosians 3:12-17, 'Therefore, as God´s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Jesus Christ taught us how to live in righteousness. Paul told the Collosians the traits we need to hold dear in our heart as men and women of God namely compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Are these the traits we see in the modern Christian faith. Look at our church leadership, do they exhibit them? We read the bible, pray everyday but when we are faced with difficult situation in the day what do we do, we become intolerant, we are cruel, we brag, and want things done our way instantly. The result is a dysfunctional home, church and society. We have turned ourselves into theoretical Christians, who act on being 'holier than thou'. We listen to sermons and praise them for being enriching but we do not practice the faith. We are a vengeful lot. Then how can peace reign in our hearts, our lives, our families and our society.

Does the word of Christ dwell in you. Only you can answer that question to yourself with all honesty. In the end we shall reap what we sow. Allow the seed of Christ´s word take root in your heart that it may guide your thoughts, actions and words. Only the can you exhibit the godly traits of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience and enjoy the peace within.
