God is Love
Our God the Almighty is unchanging and
He declared it when He said ´I am who I am´ and that He is the same
yesterday, today and tomorrow yet some say there is a difference
between the God of the Old testament and the new testament. They say
that in the Old testament God was harsh while in the new testament He
was more loving. But He is the same and has not changed a bit.
The ten commandments given to Moses at
Mount Sinai by God in Exodus 20:1-17, are edicts of what we are not
supposed to do because before the coming of Christ, our hearts were
stony and were rebellious so as to guide our actions towards being
obedient to and LOVING Him. The law was not an end unto itself and
was not our way to salvation but due to our deadened hearts, it was
meant to lead us to where God ultimately lead us through Jesus.
When Jesus came to earth, He summed the
ten commandments up into two in Mark 12:28-31, ´One of the teachers
of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had
given them a good answer, he asked him, ¨Of all the commandments,
which is the most important?¨ “The most important one,¨ answered
Jesus, ¨is this: ´Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is
one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is
this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater
than these.¨ The first covers for the first four while the second
for the last six.
God wants to have a relationship of
love with us. He Loves us so much that in His divine wisdom He made a
plan that involved sacrifice of His Son to redeem and make us his
sons just as Paul tells us in Galatians 3:26 , ´You are all sons of
God through faith in Christ Jesus...´
How should we love the Lord our God, by
trusting and obeying Him. To not love Him is to either outrightly
hate Him by engaging in idolatry which ranges from actual worship of
the devil or being indifferent with the pitiful claim that you
believe God exists and that you are generally good, and that its all
good and He will get it. But we are just deluding ourselves because
salvation is by Grace through faith in Jesus Christ and not by works
Ephesians 2:8-9.
But what is this love that God expects
from us. The same kind that He has given us that was revealed by the
Spirit through Paul reveals this to us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, ´Love
is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is
not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails...´ God loves in
this way and expects us to love our fellow man the same way.
Our disobedience hurts fellow man and
not God. We should strive to be righteous which we can only attain in
Christ by faith. God divine plan for our salvation is so mind
boggling simple that it requires the mindset of a child, a believing
mind. Through grace we received the promise of salvation, and even
though His grace is boundless, it will not endure forever, for Christ
awaits for the fullness of time before His enemies are put as a foot
stool for Judgement.
Be bold and make the right decision
