Lip service to God´s word

If you went to church today, you would have seen a multitude of people celebrating the redemption we were given by the death of Jesus Christ. But if you had gone to disco´s and bars yester night, most of the same people in church would have been found there "celebrating"still. Now how many in the church were listening to what the preacher had to say and truly accepting to live what was said. Most of us practice religion on Sunday in the church acting all pious commending the preacher for a nice sermon but do we internalise it, live it, always. We should not be like the people of Ezekiel's time who God said were hypocrites as shown in Ezekiel 33:31-34, "My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them to practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them to practice. When all this comes true- and it surely will- then they will know that a prophet has been among them."

How many of us have set goals of reading the whole bible in a year but read it not to grasp what the Lord is saying to us but as a novel, an obligation to be done with. We seek not to hear the Lord, know His expectations on us and live them but do it so as to make ourselves feel good of making an accomplishment, as something to be ticked off on a list. How many pray everyday in the evening as a formality, never really relating with God. Using it as a platform for making demands, never having a relationship with God. We never thank Him, praise Him.

What is being said by our preacher´s, those filled by the Holy Spirit is true, they preach of God´s grace and His call for us to seek salvation in Christ. The question is are we willing to take up on the offer.
