Merciful God

Psalm 30:4,5, ‘Sing to the Lord, you saints of His; praise His Holy Name. For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.’ We need to rejoice in the Lord because of His great mercy. When we were His enemies, he sent His Son to die in our place so that He could forgive our sins in Him. We are now credited to be righteous in His Son Jesus – a gift from God – and also gifted with eternal life. Even though we may suffer because of our faith in Jesus, we should not despair and be crestfallen but rejoice in the Lord because it only for a short while and then it will be over and we shall be with our Lord and Savior Jesus in Heaven. Look at the suffering as birth pains that we must endure, to be transformed and renewed, and soon we will be enjoying the coming of our Christ.

God of the Heart

Mark 12:38-40, ‘As He taught Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the market places, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at the banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.’ God is a God of the heart. He sees and judges what our motives are rather than our outward appearances. As men, we can deceive each other, living well scripted lives that portray us to be one way, earning the praise and honor of men, but deep down we know the truth about ourselves, we can fool everyone and anyone but ourselves and God. We need to aspire to live like David, only for God. We need to put His purpose above ours. We need to live by His will and not ours. We need to be men and women after God’s hearts.
