God’s Wrath Against Mankind

Romans 1:18-32, ‘The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and Divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator – who is ever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.’ Paul wrote this letter to the Romans who considered themselves the most enlightened people of their time. How apt is the message for our time. God created everything that we see i.e. us, the mountains, sun, moon, stars, rivers, trees, animals etc and the unseen i.e. heaven and hell and we are supposed to glorify Him as our God. But the schools today are teaching the evolution theory and the big bang theory and other such like ideas that try to steal the glory from God. We are in a society today that glorifies and worships things other than God. Because we refuse to acknowledge God’s Divine nature, He has left us to our own devises, our sinful nature, to guide us to our damnation, our fall and destruction. We think that we are very wise and have done these researches and studies to confirm all the wickedness that rules over our hearts, that men are predisposed to cheat, that some people are born in the wrong sex and therefore are genetically inclined to have sexual relations with same sex partners, that we need to have our way all the time and other similar ones, in an effort to “clear” our conscience. But this is foolishness and madness because we lack the knowledge of God that will open our eyes and make us see what is right and the truth. A homosexuality craze has taken over Kenya among the youth that is driven by a rebellious spirit. There is total society breakdown as sexual depravity of all kinds is being perpetrated in Kenya by all age groups, all genders, all social groups. It is like there is a competition to see who will do the most despicable, wicked thing of all. All who are doing these things know that the road they have taken by God’s righteous decree will ultimately lead to their destruction yet they continue on, goading each other to their demise. And the worse of it all is that some of us in the church are approving them in their lost ways. There is this fear that rebuking and admonishing them is a sign of hatred. But loving someone does not mean that you do not correct. We are required to rebuke and edify each other in love. Don’t be silenced by fear. Love those you care for enough to dare to save them from themselves by leading them to the truth in God, the wisdom that saves life, the mystery that was revealed in His Son Jesus Christ.
